"Stop the Devaluation of Feminized Jobs" - Lillian Cuda.
This piece is a commissioned t-shirt and sticker design for MisogynistShaming. I’m excited to see the final garment. If you’re interested in a commissioned piece, please email me at email@example.com
I like this message. I come up against this as a nanny, people (even my own family members) who consider my work to be “just babysitting”. I encounter people who think I just play all day (and yeah, some days I do play a lot), but when I’m on the clock I’m also cook and cleaner and laundry goddess; schedule-keeper, toy wrangler, multitasker extraordinaire, mind-reader, storyteller, boo-boo kisser, and snuggler.
I am educated. I have a master’s degree. I have 20 years of experience caring for children. I’ve been a teacher, a camp counselor, a librarian, and an Infant Nursery Supervisor. I’ve taken child development, psychology, and Quality Care classes. I don’t do this work because it’s women’s work or because I can’t find a “better” job. Ask anyone who knows me: this is by far the best job I’ve ever had. I love this job, my kids, the family. This is the work that feeds me emotionally.
I hate that people think I am less than because of the job I choose to have.
